The JV Dux clamped down on the defensive end in a victory over the Mona Shores Sailors, winning 49-29, moving the team's record to 9-1 (8-1). It was the best defensive showing of the season for the Dux.

"At the JV level, we pride ourselves on learning the Zeeland West defensive system," Coach Ray said. "In such a shortened season, it's been hard to find defensive consistency. But it seems as though things may have clicked tonight."

The Dux held the Sailors to 14 first-half points, taking a 27-14 lead at the break. In an ugly third quarter, the Dux only scored four points, but held the Sailors to 10. In the fourth quarter, the Dux offense came back to life, winning the quarter 18-5. 

"Our third quarter was really difficult to watch from an offensive perspective," Coach Ray said. "We were sloppy, we were not cutting with purpose, and that led to us having a really hard time putting the ball in the hole. With that being said, the sign of a growing team is that we did not let that deter us on the defensive end. We were still really stout on defense which allowed us to keep a bit of a cushion heading into the final quarter."

Skyler Geurink (2023) led the team with 19 points, while Josh Agar (2023) had 11 points. In all, the Dux received scoring contributions from Chase Holwerda (2023), Myles Steffen (2024), Deklen Klamt (2023), David Rockel (2023), Andrew Edwards (2023), Ethan Haskill (2023), and Sterling Shepard (2023).

The Dux will take on non-conference opponent West Ottawa tomorrow morning. The Freshmen will tip off at 10:00am, with the JV tipping off around 11:30am, and Varsity to follow around 1:00pm.
