Boys Junior Varsity West Basketball vs. Grand Haven HS School

Game Date
Feb 27, 2020
Score
: 50
GRAND HAVEN HIGH SCHOOL: 35

Josh Kroll ('22) and Keigan Wiersma ('22) both started their first game of the season on Thursday night, helping the JV Dux get off to a great start en route to a 50-35 win over Grand Haven. The win propels the Dux to a 16-3 (11-1) record on the season, with one game to play.

"Grand Haven was a very tough team with some excellent players," Coach Ray said. "They were one of the top JV teams in the OK-Red Conference, so it was exciting for us to get the opportunity to play against a bigger school. Josh and Keigan ignited our team with energetic defense that allowed us to get off to a good start."

Six Dux players scored at least five points in the win, with Kylan Arnold ('22) leading the way with 16 points. Trevor Wallar ('23) scored ten points, while Bergen Loeprich ('22) scored seven, Cade Overweg ('22) and Mitch Middleton ('22) had six points apiece, and Drew Weenum ('22) had five points.

"We had a lot of contributors tonight, which makes us difficult to defend," Coach Ray said. "Our players have devoted time all season to improving their game. Mitch Middleton has been begging to shoot more threes all season. I told him he needed to get more shots up before and after practice to improve his consistency. He sure shut me up tonight, hitting two long-range bombs."

The JV Dux look to end their season on a high note on Tuesday, March 3, when Reeths-Puffer takes a visit to The Swamp. The Freshmen team will tip off at 4:00pm, with JV to follow at 5:30pm, and varsity to cap off the night at 7:00pm.
