Sparked by the return of Bergen Loeprich ('22) from injury, the JV boys basketball team defeated Wayland in the consolation game of the Cornerstone Holiday Tournament, winning by a score of 57-32.
"It was so great to have Bergen back on the floor," Coach Ray said. "He brings so much to the table: athleticism, an ability to create on offense, and most importantly, the ability to truly disrupt our opponents on the defensive end."
Loeprich ('22) was one of six players who scored at least six points. Kylan Arnold ('22) led the team with 22 points.
"We are at our best when we are unselfishly sharing the ball, moving on offense, and being patient," Coach Ray said. "We were much more patient today, which led to high quality shots."
The Dux held Wayland to 32 points, a season-low for points allowed.
"Defense is what we stress," Ray said. "I was impressed with every guy who played. Our bench came in and did not relent. Guys like Toby Reinardy ('22), Isaac Hondorp ('22), Brendan Gabrion ('22), among others, took tremendous pride in executing the game plan and not getting sloppy."
The Dux won't play again until after the New Year. On January 7th, the team will take on Comstock Park at Comstock, and then rival Zeeland East on January 9th at East.
