COOPERSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL: 0

The weather finally cooperated for the Dux girls varsity soccer team, as they were able to play a full 80 minutes outside for the first time this season against Coopersville. The Dux left with a 3-0 victory over the Broncos. The two teams were pretty evenly matched for the opening 10-15 minutes, generating chances and defending well. The Broncos nearly took a 1-0 lead after earning a penalty kick, but the ensuing kick sailed harmlessly over the crossbar. After the missed PK, the Dux offense went to work, and the Dux defense clamped down.

Kylee Winn (SR) opened the scoring for the Dux. Sam Hecht (SR) drove down the right hand side before cutting back and driving a cross to the back post. Winn's one time blast gave the Coopersville keeper no chance at making the save. Less than 10 minutes later, Winn returned the favor, delivering a cross from the left side across the box. Hecht took it off her chest, and slammed the ball into the back of the net from 6 yards out, giving the Dux a 2-0 halftime lead.

During the second half, it was all Zeeland West. The defense was stifling, and the midfield used the turf to move the ball quickly and intentionally around the field. Hecht scored her second of the game late in the 2nd half, off of a cleverly slotted ball through the middle from Tally Martinez (JR), providing the third and final goal of the match for the Dux.

"Hard to imagine we played less than 24 hours ago in the snow and rain. We were able to talk through some things from our game last night, and our team really came out focused and intentional tonight. Very pleased with our ability to make the simple adjustments to keep pressure on their team. Our defense did not give them much of anything tonight, our midfield did an effective job of cycling and distributing the ball, and we had great hold-up play and movement off the ball by our strikers. Our understanding of what we are trying to do took a giant step in the right direction, and we did the simple things very well. Very pleased with our effort, energy and execution. Coopersville is a good team, but we were able to disrupt their timing and keep them off balance for significant stretches during the game."

The Dux are 2-0 on the year, and return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Wayland. Taylor Twork made 5 save in net for the Dux, including 3 breakaways that resulted in one on one situations.
