HOLLAND HIGH SCHOOL: 1

The Dux girls varsity soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to 8 games on a hot and steamy afternoon, defeating Holland High School 3-1 in the opening round of the MHSAA district tournament. The Dux opened the first half with great offensive pressure, pinning the Dutch defense in their own end for much of the half. While the Dux defense did a great job of matching the physicality and speed of Holland's lone offensive threat. Sam Hecht scored her first of two goals in the opening frame, off of a nice assist from Kylee Winn. Both Winn and Tally Martinez took advantage of one on one battles on the outside, often finding themselves deep in Dutch territory.

The Dux opened the second half with 2 goals in the opening 5 minutes. A Dux corner kick found Callie Dobrinski's feet at the near post. Dobrinski's clever quick touch to Sam Hecht resulted in the second goal for the Dux, as Hecht's shot from point blank range surprised everyone. Less than five minutes later, Tally Martinez used her speed and some fancy footwork to beat her opponent down the left hand side. Her delivery into the box found Hecht who laid off a perfectly weighted one touch pass to Josie Bos, who buried her shot from 12 yards out.

"Offensively, we moved the ball really well at times tonight. We took advantage of some mismatches and had decent deliveries and runs in the penalty area. We continue to work on improving on our finishing. We generated a lot of quality opportunities tonight, despite the heat and humidity. Defensively, we really tightened up the second half and limited their opportunities."

Ryleigh Farrell had 3 saves in the match in goal for the Dux. The Dux face Zeeland East in the district semi-final on Thursday @ 3:00pm in Hamilton. "East has improved a ton over the season, and are also riding some momentum. They have a bunch of young, talented and hungry players who have been added to the mix towards the end of the season. They are carrying some confidence, we are playing with confidence... It promises to be another quality chapter in the East / West rivalry."
