The Dux varsity soccer team ended the week on a high note, beating Calvin Christian 5-2. Abby Winn (FR) struck first for the Dux, after sister Kylee (SR) got in behind the Squire defense and slotted a ball back across the face of the goal. Abby roofed the ball at the near post, giving the Dux a 1-0 lead. The Squires would equalize as the half ended 1-1.
The Dux would add 3 goals in the opening 15 minutes of the second half, while conceding one, as they dominated possession and were able to dictate the style and pace of play. Andrea Valdes (SR) scored her first of two goals on the night, after a misclear by the Squires. As the ball exited the penalty box, Valdes lofted a shot that snuck under the cross bar, making it 2-1. Sam Hecht (SR) made it 3-1 after receiving a ball through the middle from Abby Winn. Valdes scored her second off of another miscleared corner, again tucking the ball just under the bar from 25 yards out. The Squires would make it 4-2, before Hecht converted a PK for her second goal on the night. Taylor Twork made 4 saves in net.
"Great way to end a tough week. Three games in five days can wear on you, but our team managed it really well, and rebounded well after a disappointing loss on Wednesday. Everyone contributed tonight, and we were able to control much of the game, giving us some confidence going into next week where we will again play 3 games in 5 days. We took a couple of steps in the right direction tonight, very pleased with the effort, enthusiasm and energy."
The Dux are 6-2-1 on the year and will play East on Monday.
