GAME SUMMARYThe Dux varsity soccer team rebounded from a disappointing outing on Tuesday against Unity Christian, by blanking host Jenison 1-0 on Thursday night. The Dux used a stingy, physical and organized defense to frustrate an athletic and dangerous Wildcat attack throughout the match. "Our backs were much more in sync tonight, and everyone else fed off of the mental and physical toughness of our back three - Leanne Wyrick, Lucy Bouvier, and Tally Martinez. We were playing through tackles and our angles were much better tonight. Good offense starts with solid and organized defense." Taylor Twork had another great game in net, making 4 saves on the night. Offensively, the Dux were tenacious and relentless in the midfield and were able to hold long stretches of possession. "We were much more confident through the midfield, and made sound decisions with the ball allowing us to prevent Jenison from getting much of anything going." Sam Hecht scored the lone goal for the Dux late in the first half after receiving a ball at the top of the box, turning and firing a shot into the back of the net. Despite having a majority of possession and creating multiple scoring chances, the game ended 1-0. "Jenison's GK made several great saves to keep them in the game. Two inches to the left or three inches to the right would have given us more of a cushion." Great effort and energy on the night. The Dux are 3-1 on the season, and return to conference action on Monday, when they travel to Holland Christian.
